- "Italian car manufacturer De Tomaso Automobili SpA produces various prototypes, racing cars, and high-performance sports cars. De Tomaso also produced luxury passenger cars, such as the Deauville, in the 1970s and 1980s in an attempt to compete with similar models made by Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar. In 1976, De Tomaso acquired the Italian sports car maker Maserati, which it sold to Fiat in 1993. De Tomaso is best known for the Pantera, a mass-production sports car sold by Ford in the United States from 1971-1975 and still popular with collectors."
